Each issue of —after begins with a single work: a painting, a photograph, a piece of music, a film still. Contributors are invited to respond—not to illustrate or explain, but to follow wherever the source leads them.
We publish poetry, fiction, essays, photography, and visual art. We are looking for work that is genuinely in conversation with its source—work that surprises, resists, expands. Six issues per year are open to all readers; paid subscribers receive all twelve.
